March 7 – Connect
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
God desires that loving relationships be the primary focus of our lives. This is why He commands us to: “love the Lord our God with all of our hearts” and “love our neighbor as ourselves.” One of the most significant ways we can demonstrate love is to forgive others. If not forgiven, offenses can consume our thoughts, destroy friendships and cloud our relationship with the Lord.
In Matthew 18, Jesus tells about a man who was forgiven an exorbitant debt by his boss, only to turn around and demand instant repayment from a co-worker who owed him a fraction of the amount he had just been released from having to pay. Just as the boss forgave his employee a debt he would never have been able to repay, God releases us from the overwhelming debt of our sin.
If we want to imitate God’s behavior towards us, we will choose to forgive, so that we can experience His peace and freedom.
