Fullness: A Hunger for God

We live in a world that is always looking for fulfillment. We pursue success, relationships, experiences, and everything we are told will make us happy. Yet the more we strive for these things, the more the void inside of us grows.

God has something different for us. We were meant to live full and overflowing; not from deficiency, but from expectancy. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

A Hunger for God
The deepest hunger in our hearts is a hunger for God. jobs, money, family, hobbies, and relationships are not necessarily bad, but they cannot fill the space that belongs only to God. Nothing in this world will satisfy until we place Jesus in the center of our lives.

Psalm 42 says, “My soul thirsts for God, the living God.” There is a hunger that only God can satisfy.

The Value of the One
In Acts 8, Philip leaves a great revival in Samaria for a desert road, where he encounters one Ethiopian man looking for God.

God measures success differently than we do. Philip was willing to leave the crowd because God cared about the one.

The Ethiopian was rich and educated, but none of those things could fulfill the hunger inside him for God.

When Philip shared the good news about Jesus, the Ethiopian responded, “Look, here’s water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?”

Filled by God
After his baptism, the Bible says he went on his way rejoicing. He left Jerusalem still searching, but he left the desert filled.

His hunger and thirst were ultimately not for religion, money, or influence.

And that same invitation is for us:
Get back to your first love. Get back to your pearl of great price. Get back to your desire for the Lord.

The goal is not to hunger because we are empty, but to hunger from expectancy; because we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good.

Nothing else in this world will satisfy except Jesus.
