Jesus said, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me.” When we come to Christ and drink, He promises that rivers of living water will flow through us. That river is the Holy Spirit; God’s life flowing within us.
We were not filled just to be full. We were filled to overflow. God’s design is for His life to flow through us into the world around us, bringing life to us and others through the power of the Spirit.
Throughout Scripture, we see the picture of a river. The Bible begins with a river flowing from Eden and ends with a river of the water of life flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb. Ezekiel describes a river that becomes deeper as it flows, bringing life wherever it flows.
The river can flow through powerful moments, but it can also flow through practical acts of love; a word of encouragement, prayer, food, clothing, a hug, or simply showing up for someone who is going through a hard time.
Jesus is our source. We can live from fullness instead of living to fill an emptiness. Wherever God leads us, our prayer can be: “God, give me eyes to see, ears to hear, help me to know when the river is to flow and help me to let it flow.”
