Breathe: Breaking Free From Anxiety

In our Breathe series, Pastor Kevin reminded us that God is calling us to slow down, breathe deeply, and step into spiritual maturity. Anxiety shows up for all of us, but God’s desire is to form us into steady believers who know how to quiet the noise and trust Him fully.

Quieting Your Soul
Psalms 131 paints a picture of a believer who has learned to calm their soul like a weaned child beside their parent. This is spiritual maturity. It’s choosing to steady your heart instead of being overwhelmed by every fear or problem. God wants to grow us into trees planted, people who don’t get uprooted when life gets hard. When your soul is quieted before God, you can hear Him more clearly and trust Him more deeply.

Jesus on Worry
In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks directly to the anxiety that weighs us down. He tells us not to worry about our lives because God already knows what we need. If He feeds the birds and clothes the lilies, He will take care of you. Worry doesn’t solve issues. It steals peace. But focusing on God’s presence shifts everything. When we choose to look at the size of our God instead of the size of our problems, anxiety loses its grip.

Past. Present. Future.

Past worries can’t be changed, but you can forgive yourself and others. Present moments can be shaped by obedience, worship, and prayer. The future is out of your control, but fully in God’s. Learning to place each category in His hands frees your mind and heart. You don’t have to carry what you cannot control. You simply choose to sow good seeds today and trust God with what comes next.

Thinking from the Throne
Colossians 3 tells us to set our minds on things above. When you think from God’s victory instead of your valley, everything shifts. Where you think from determines what you think of. When your thoughts start from the truth that Jesus is already seated on the throne, anxiety doesn’t get the final word. Peace begins to grow because your perspective is rooted in God’s power, not your pressure.

Real Peace Comes from His Presence
Real peace isn’t something you create. It flows from knowing Jesus is with you in every moment. He promises to walk with you through floods, fires, fear, and uncertainty. You are never alone. God is faithful, and He will take care of you in ways you couldn’t have planned or predicted. Our church family in Orlando is learning to breathe again, trust again, and rest again in the One who holds every detail of our lives.
