In the Gospels, Jesus often shared meals with people, proving that life transformation often happened around a dinner table rather than in a synagogue. Throughout Scripture, meals became places of relationship, discipleship, healing, and salvation, reminding us that hospitality is a powerful way to share and show God's love.
Why the Table Matters
From the beginning of the Bible, God used meals to accomplish His purposes. A meal with Abraham confirmed God's covenant, the Passover meal marked Israel's deliverance, and the Last Supper established communion. Even in Revelation, Jesus says He stands at the door, knocks and desires to come in and eat with those who welcome Him. The table has always been a place where God draws people into relationship with Him.
Throughout His ministry, Jesus ate with people from all walks of life. Meals were not interruptions to His ministry; they were part of His ministry. Around ordinary tables, faith moved from being learned to being lived.
Jesus and Zacchaeus: A Meal That Changed Everything
In Luke 19, Jesus saw Zacchaeus before anyone else did. Instead of beginning with correction, Jesus extended an invitation: "I must stay at your house today." Before Zacchaeus ever changed, Jesus wanted relationship. During that meal, Zacchaeus' heart was transformed, leading him to repentance and restoration. Jesus concluded, "The Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost." In this story, seeking the lost began with a shared meal.
The Power of Hospitality
The table brings people together. Families build memories there. Friendships grow there. Conversations happen there. It creates space for people to feel seen, heard, and loved.
Rather than treating hospitality as something ordinary, believers are encouraged to see the dining table as a place where God can work through genuine relationships. The goal is not simply to deliver a message, but to love people well and allow the Holy Spirit to lead through conversation.
The Three Table Challenge
The message concludes with a simple challenge for every believer:
Your Table Can Change a Life
God often works through ordinary moments. A dining room table, a local restaurant, or a backyard picnic can become a place where lives are transformed, relationships are restored, and people encounter Jesus.
As this series is a reminder that Christianity is meant to be lived, not just learned, and one of the simplest ways to live it out is by inviting someone to your table.

The message concludes with a simple challenge for every believer:
- Eat with your family and intentionally have a meaningful spiritual conversation.
- Share a meal with another believer to encourage one another and strengthen fellowship.
- Invite someone who is far from God to join you for a meal, focusing on relationship, listening, and showing the love of Christ.
