What is filling your heart?
In a world that is filled with darkness, Jesus reminds us that there is light on the inside of us. The question is not simply what is happening around us, but what we are allowing to happen inside of us. We are instructed to guard our hearts, because from there flows the issues of life.
Our hearts were never meant to be a garbage can where anything and everything is thrown in. They are meant to be a safe; a place where we intentionally keep what is valuable and eternal. God’s Word, our relationship with God, our relationships with each other, and our families are true riches worth protecting.
But guarding our hearts is more than protecting ourselves from people, hurt, or difficult circumstances. There is a spiritual battle taking place, and we must recognize the influence that intends to draw our hearts away from God. We cannot keep commingling light and darkness.
Jesus does not cleanse our lives so that we can remain empty. We are called to be filled up with the fullness of God, filled with His Spirit, His Word, His joy, His purposes, His goodness, and His life.
Fullness takes intentionality. It takes spending time with God, reading His Word, being among the body of Christ, and hiding His Word in our hearts. We don't just want to be empty, swept, and clean; we want to be filled to the full until we overflow.
Are you taking inventory of your heart? What is filling it? What needs to be removed? What needs to be replaced with the things of God?
Guard your heart like it matters. Stop commingling. Get everything else out, and make room for what is good and eternal.
