At Calvary, we recently welcomed Overland Missions for a powerful Sunday service, showcasing how faith and action are transforming lives worldwide. This service was a reminder that the Great Commission is not just a calling for a few but a mission for all believers.
A Call to Missions
Hebrews 11:32-34 reminds us of the heroes of faith who, by trusting in God, "subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, and stopped the mouths of lions." This same faith is what fuels missions today.
As part of our series, "From Ashes to Glory," we talked about the importance of stepping out in faith to spread the gospel. Missions are not only about traveling to distant lands but about living a life of impact, whether in our local communities or across the world.
Overland Missions: Expanding God’s Kingdom
As stated in Malachi 4:2, "But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings." Overland Missions carries this healing power of the gospel to unreached communities, bringing transformation through faith.
Philip and Sharon Smethurst shared the vision of Overland Missions, which focuses on reaching unreached people groups, partnering with African kings and tribal leaders, and empowering local believers. By working alongside these leaders, they create lasting spiritual and social transformation in entire communities.
One of their most remarkable initiatives is their collaboration with traditional African authorities, where they provide biblical leadership training and discipleship. This approach ensures that the gospel takes deep root in these cultures, leading to long-term spiritual revival.
Miracles and Testimonies
God’s power was evident through incredible testimonies. One powerful story involved a young woman in Australia who was miraculously healed from a brain tumor after prayer. Another testimony recounted the gathering of over 300 African kings in a historic summit where many committed their lives to Christ. These stories affirm that God is actively working in the nations through the obedience of His people.

- Go: Consider joining a mission trip to experience firsthand how God is changing lives across the globe.
- Pray: Missions thrive through the power of prayer. Commit to interceding for missionaries, the communities they serve, and the lives being transformed.
- Give: Financial support is vital for missions work. Your generosity enables missionaries to travel, provide resources, and expand the reach of the gospel.
