Relevant Acts: God’s Demonstration, The Early Church Revealed

In the Book of Acts, we find the blueprint for the church, a Spirit-filled, unified, generous, and mission-driven body that reveals God’s Kingdom to the world. That same blueprint is still the model for today’s Christian community.

The early believers weren’t just attending services; they were living in fellowship of the Spirit. Acts 2 describes men and women from every nation gathering together, filled with the same Holy Spirit, devoted to teaching, prayer, breaking bread, and meeting needs. This wasn’t a man-made program. It was a supernatural work of God.

The Church as God’s Demonstration Field
In agriculture, a demonstration field is where farmers test and showcase the best seeds, fertilizers, and methods so others can see the results. The church is God’s demonstration field, planted in the world so people can see His love, grace, and transformation in action.
When outsiders look into the Christian community, they should see:
  1. Unity that overcomes differences in background and culture
  2. Generosity that meets needs without coercion
  3. Love that is sincere, devoted, and committed even when it’s hard
  4. Transformation stories that prove God can heal, restore, and change anyone
The fellowship itself is part of our witness. People are not just drawn to the message of the gospel; they’re drawn to the community the gospel creates.

From Spectators to Participants
A healthy church is not an audience, it’s a body. Scripture says each believer has been given gifts “for the common good.” That means every Christian has something to contribute, whether it’s:
  1. Encouragement that lifts someone’s spirit
  2. Service that meets practical needs
  3. Leadership that guides with diligence
  4. Mercy that shows compassion in hard times
  5. Prayer and spiritual gifts that bring healing and direction
The early church grew because everyone played a part. In the same way, the church today is called to be a Spirit-filled family where every gift is deployed, not just in the world, but first within the fellowship, so we’re healthy, strong, and ready to welcome new believers.

Love in Action
Real Christian community means showing up:
  1. Rejoicing with those who rejoice without jealousy
  2. Mourning with those who mourn without avoiding discomfort
  3. Being present in times of sickness, loss, or challenge
  4. Offering forgiveness and grace, even when it costs us
The early believers loved boldly, knowing they could be hurt, because they trusted God’s grace was greater than fear. That same Spirit calls us to live generously and selflessly in Orlando and beyond.

A Call to Be the Church
If you are a follower of Jesus, you are not just here to receive, you’re here to build, serve, and demonstrate the Kingdom of God.
Let’s commit to:
  1. Living as a Spirit-filled community
  2. Preferring others above ourselves
  3. Deploying our gifts to transform lives
  4. Showing Orlando a demonstration of God’s love that makes people say, “I want to be part of that.”

The world is watching the field. Let’s make sure they see a healthy, fruitful, unified, and powerful church, just like the one in Acts.
